The Best Way to Predict Your Future...

The best way to predict your future is to create it.  Abraham Lincoln

Before I lost my job in October 2010, I thought I had apretty good handle on my future.  Days in the field, selling to hospitals and surgery centers had become routine.  I made good money, enjoyed my customers, and was working on a couple side businesses, including a burgeoning speaking career.

When my job went away, I had a choice.  I could create another high level sales position - getting into the same routine with a different company and product.

Learning to let the balls drop

The hardest thing to learn is not "how to juggle," but how to let the balls drop.  Anthony Frost

“My name is Lisa and I am a multitask-aholic.”  (Hi, Lisa…) Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a support group where we could all cometogether and share the burdens of having to do everything all at once?

Although we feel we are accomplishing more when we work onseveral projects at once, we are actually less productive.

Gratitude Thought for the Week - Tell Others

"Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared." Buddha

One great way to share happiness with others is so share your gratitude and appreciation of them. We often take our loved ones for granted, thinking that they "know" how we feel about them. When you tell someone you appreciate them, you are lighting their candle - you will see their face light up. In your sharing, your light will shine even brighter - a true win/win.

Expressing Gratitude in the busy-ness of life

God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say "thank you?"" William A. Ward

Face it, we're busy. With everything we have going on, there just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day. This often leads to stress, worry, anger, fatigue - none of which are very fun. In the busiest of times, it's critical that we take a moment to appreciate the good things we do have in our lives. After all, we woke up in a warm bed, were able to get up and walk, nourish ourselves, and get into our car to start out day.

Gratitude Thought for the Week - Overcoming Fear

"When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears." Anthony Robbins

On October 12, 2011, I celebrated my one-year anniversary of being self-employed. Now mind you, my self-employment was not initially my decision - I was caught up in a corporate downsizing where myself and eleven others were told our positions were eliminated - via group conference call. My initial reaction was shock, then the fear set in. I had a great job, making really good money, having my best year ever with the company - what in the world was I going to do now?

Gratitude in the Wake of a Stroke

"Gratitude should not be just a reaction to getting what you want, but an all-the-time gratitude, the kind where you notice the little things and where you constantly look for the good, even in unpleasant situations. Start bringing gratitude to your experiences, instead of waiting for a positive experience in order to feel grateful." Marelisa Fábrega

On August 20th, my father suffered a severe stroke. I can honestly tell you, it was very hard to get to gratitude in those first couple days.

To receive more, we must give more...

"To receive more, we must be willing to give more…It is expressly at those times when we feel needy that we will benefit the most from giving." Ruth Ross

Today may be a day you are just plain stressed out - not enough time, not enough money, not enough... I have found that when I don't have enough time to do all the things I want to get gone, I give myself the gift of a 10 minute break to just relax, take some deep breaths, and pause to think. This practice gives me the re-energizing that I need, and I find I am able to get a lot accomplished - with a much better attitude.

An Anniversary Celebration!

“Gratitude is a quality similar to electricity: it must beproduced and discharged and used up in order to exist at all.”  William Faulkner

On October 12, I will be celebrating the one-year anniversary of the elimination of my job in medical sales. At the time it happened, celebration was the furthest thing from my mind. However, because of my daily practice of gratitude, I decided to look for things within this painful experience for which I could be grateful. It was difficult, but once I got started, I found there was plenty.

Making Gratitude a Habit

Practicing gratitude is easy to do - it's also easy not to do, which is why it's a great idea to form the habit of being grateful.  Since it takes 21 days to form a habit, why not start now and see what changes in the next 30 days for you?

A gratitude journal is a great place to start. Now, don't get all uptight about the thought of having to write pages and pages of feelings about gratitude in your journal.  Frankly, my journal is loose leaf paper in a binder, and I write down 5 sentences (or more, depending on my mood) starting with the words, "I am grateful for.
